It finally hit me… There is no “getting back to

It finally hit me…

There is no “getting back to the old me.” That Ashley no longer exists. I miss her dearly but this Ashley? This Ashley, gets to be the mother of a 7.5 month old babygirl that already has so much personality (she’s a yapper, yall 🤭).

I remember finding it a little corny when I’d see posts like “stop growing” and the baby is like a week old, but I get it now. I find myself missing the present. And honestly, there’s already so much I would’ve done differently those first couple of months (more on that later). But I honor that we were simply surviving.

I don’t know when I’ll finally stop thinking “I can’t believe she’s here. I can’t believe I’m a mom.” And maybe those are the very thoughts that keep me grounded. The reminder of how thankful we are for little Elizabeth.

Now I get to feel the beauty of wanting to step back into time to experience those first moments with her — our slice of heaven on earth.

Don’t blink…

It’s the first of the month, I’ve been back to work for 2 weeks, and life continues to be generous. I wasn’t ready for someone else to get my midday contact naps, or to stop cosplaying a stay at home mom (SAHM), but here we are.

I want to remind yall to be kinder to moms, especially new moms. To Black mothers. Who are doing everything against all odds. That someone else’s life and joy, doesn’t have to look how you think it should, for it to be authentic and full of love. That cruelty is never the answer, and if you ever think it is, get back to the drawing board.

That being settled, is not the same as settling. Seasons come and go. And most things look so much easier/better/bigger online.

Before you know it, you’ll blink and realize that you’ve spent way too much time observing others observe you.

May we all live the lives that we deserve.

Not having a dad or father figure growing up, left

Not having a dad or father figure growing up, left a void that I didn’t realize I had until I was walking down the aisle by myself. So watching the way Elizabeth lights up with joy, every time Mitch walks in a room, has slowly healed me in ways I wasn’t sure was possible. I’m so thankful for the life we are building, and that I get to do parenthood with Mitch.

Happy first Father’s Day, to this sweet man of mine.

Made some changes …

Please forgive me as I get back into the swing of making videos (it’s a bit rocky, I know).

One of my MANY projects on my todo list for our home, was revamping our entryway. I wanted to add more warmth, while really leaning into one of my favorite decorating styles — French Provincial.

More texture, heart, Aquarius (iykyk).

Can you believe we’ve been in this home almost 5 years?!! When you’re a normal person (with regular people budgets), that’s how long it takes to fill/feel a home. At some point, I need to show the before and after(s).

It’s funny because now everything I do in here, I do with Elizabeth in mind. I think about what her memories will be. The smells, textures, and sounds. I think about what we will leave behind for her, and all the stories.

While I know us being here, giving her love, and a regulated nervous system is what’s most important, I want the environment around her to reflect that back (if that makes sense). I’m responsible for her childhood magic (in this Black ass home 😏).

Having a beautiful, well-appointed home, is just one of many ways that I honor my ancestors and our history.

Part 2 of 3: A lot can happen in a year.

Picture this: We just got home from a failed egg retrieval because I ovulated through the meds—again. I messaged the portal demanding to speak to my doctor asap, and went to sleep my sorrows away.

As a millennial, my ringer is always off, so it’s a literal miracle I woke up to 2 missed calls and a portal message that read: “Those eggs are somewhere.” 🏃🏾‍♀️💨

We were told to drive right back to the clinic to convert to an IUI.

Now, the last time we did an IUI, a doctor told us, “This isn’t going to work, but sure, I’ll do it.” Mitch’s count was under 1M (they want 5-10M). But on this day? Mitch brought 19 Million swimmers to the party. 🍆💥

Even crazier? Our doctor drove 1.5 hours from Canton just to do the 2-minute procedure herself. She was out the door before my post-procedure timer even went off #iykyk.

And now... it was time to wait. I’m officially PUPO (Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise). Let’s do this. 🌈
